If you've ever ordered used pallets, you've probably encountered the grading system — Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C. But what do these grades actually mean, and how do you know which one is right for your business? Let's break it down.

Grade A — Premium Quality

Grade A pallets are the cream of the crop when it comes to used pallets. These are pallets that have been used only once or twice and show minimal signs of wear. They're clean, structurally sound, and visually appealing.

Best for: Retail displays, pharmaceutical distribution, food-grade applications, and any situation where appearance matters alongside functionality. If your pallets will be visible to end customers, Grade A is your go-to choice.

Load capacity: Typically 2,500 lbs or more in dynamic loading conditions.

Grade B — Reliable Workhorse

Grade B pallets are the sweet spot for most businesses. They may show some cosmetic wear — minor staining, slight discoloration, or surface marks — but they're fully functional and structurally certified. This is where you get the best value for your dollar.

Best for: Warehousing, manufacturing, shipping between facilities, and general distribution. If your pallets are being used behind the scenes, Grade B delivers excellent performance at a lower price point.

Load capacity: Typically 2,000 to 2,500 lbs in dynamic loading conditions.

Grade C — Budget-Friendly

Grade C pallets show more visible wear and may have minor repairs such as replaced boards or reinforced stringers. They've been through our full inspection process and are certified safe for use, but they won't win any beauty contests.

Best for: One-way shipping, temporary storage, internal facility use, and budget-conscious operations where appearance isn't a priority.

Load capacity: Typically 1,500 to 2,000 lbs in dynamic loading conditions.

How to Choose the Right Grade

Consider these factors when selecting your pallet grade:

  1. Load weight: Heavier loads require higher-grade pallets with greater structural integrity.
  2. Visibility: Will customers see your pallets? If so, choose Grade A.
  3. Frequency of use: Pallets making multiple trips should be Grade A or B for durability.
  4. Budget: Grade C pallets can save you up to 40% compared to Grade A.
  5. Industry requirements: Some industries have specific pallet standards that dictate minimum grade requirements.

Our Recommendation

For most businesses, we recommend starting with a mix. Use Grade A for customer-facing applications and Grade B for everything else. This balanced approach maximizes savings without compromising quality where it matters most.
