Before You Buy New — Have You Considered Used?

We want to be upfront: for most applications, used pallets perform identically to new ones at a fraction of the cost. A Grade A used pallet is structurally identical to a new pallet and costs 30-40% less. We encourage every customer to consider used pallets first. If used pallets truly do not meet your requirements, we are happy to provide new pallets built to your exact specifications.

When New Pallets Are the Right Choice

While we always recommend considering used pallets first, there are legitimate scenarios where new pallets are the better option. Here are the most common reasons our customers choose new.

International Export

Many countries require pallets to meet ISPM-15 standards with fresh heat treatment stamps. While some used pallets carry valid HT stamps, new pallets guarantee compliance and eliminate any risk of rejection at customs. For high-value international shipments, the certainty is worth the investment.

Food & Pharmaceutical

Certain food safety and pharmaceutical regulations require pallets that have never been exposed to contaminants. New pallets provide a clean, documented history from mill to your facility. If your operations fall under FDA, USDA, or GMP regulations that mandate new pallets, we can build them to spec.

Automated Systems

Highly automated warehouse systems with tight dimensional tolerances sometimes require new pallets for consistent performance. Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) often need pallets that meet exact specifications with minimal variation in dimension and board placement.

Branded & Marketing

Some businesses use pallets as part of their brand experience — branded pallets for trade shows, retail displays, or corporate events. When appearance is paramount and the pallet is part of your brand story, new pallets provide that pristine, uniform look.

Specialty Dimensions

If you need a non-standard size that is not commonly available in the used market, new construction may be the most practical option. We can build pallets in any dimension using premium lumber sourced from responsible forestry operations.

Customer Requirements

Some of your customers may contractually require new pallets for their inbound shipments. Whether it is a large retailer with strict receiving standards or a supply chain partner with specific pallet requirements, we can meet those specifications precisely.

Materials

Wood Species We Use

The species of wood affects weight, strength, cost, and appearance. We offer three primary options to match your specific application requirements.

Most PopularSoftwood

Southern Yellow Pine (SYP)

The most commonly used lumber for pallet manufacturing in the Southeast. SYP offers an excellent balance of strength, cost, and workability. It accepts heat treatment well and meets all standard pallet performance requirements. Our default choice for standard new pallets.

  • Most cost-effective
  • Widely available
  • Good strength-to-weight ratio
  • Accepts HT well
  • Easy to repair
Best for: General purpose, shipping, warehousing
Heavy DutyHardwood

Oak & Mixed Hardwood

Oak and mixed hardwoods deliver the highest load capacity and durability. Hardwood pallets resist impact damage better and last longer under heavy use. They are heavier than softwood, which increases shipping costs but provides superior protection for heavy or valuable cargo.

  • Highest load capacity
  • Superior durability
  • Impact resistant
  • Longest lifespan
  • Premium appearance
Best for: Heavy machinery, automotive, export
LightweightSoftwood

SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir)

SPF lumber is lighter than SYP and provides adequate strength for standard loads. It is popular for applications where pallet weight is a concern, such as air freight or manual handling environments. SPF is also a good choice for lightweight or low-density products.

  • Lightest option
  • Lower shipping weight
  • Easier manual handling
  • Good for light loads
  • Smooth surface
Best for: Air freight, retail, lightweight products

ISPM-15 Heat Treatment Explained

ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is the global standard for treating wood packaging material used in international trade. It exists to prevent the spread of invasive insects and plant diseases between countries through wood packing material.

How Heat Treatment Works

Pallets are placed in a heat treatment kiln where the core temperature of the wood is raised to a minimum of 56 degrees Celsius (132.8 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 30 consecutive minutes. This process kills all insects, larvae, and pathogens in the wood without the use of chemicals. Each treated pallet receives an official stamp with the treatment facility code, country code, and treatment method (HT for heat treatment).

When You Need ISPM-15

ISPM-15 treatment is required for all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnage) used in international trade between most countries. The United States, European Union, China, Australia, and virtually all major trading nations enforce this requirement. Shipments arriving on non-compliant pallets can be rejected at the port of entry, delayed, fumigated at your expense, or returned.

Our ISPM-15 Process

We partner with a licensed ISPM-15 treatment facility to ensure all heat treatment meets the exact specifications required by international regulations. Every batch is monitored with calibrated temperature probes, and treatment records are maintained for traceability. The official ISPM-15 stamp is applied to each pallet after treatment is verified and documented.

Options

New Pallet Configurations

Stringer Pallets

The most common pallet design in North America

Stringer pallets use two or three parallel pieces of lumber (called stringers) to support the deck boards. They are the most economical design and work well with forklifts that access the pallet from two sides. Notched stringers allow four-way fork entry.

  • Two-way or four-way entry
  • Most cost-effective design
  • 48x40 standard and custom sizes
  • Hardwood or softwood options
  • Heat treated available

Block Pallets

Premium four-way entry design

Block pallets use blocks of solid wood between the top and bottom deck boards, providing true four-way entry for forklifts and pallet jacks from any side. They are stronger and more durable than stringer pallets but cost more to manufacture. Ideal for heavy loads and operations that require multi-directional access.

  • True four-way fork entry
  • Higher load capacity
  • More durable construction
  • Euro pallet standard design
  • Ideal for heavy loads

For heavy-duty applications, we offer oak and mixed hardwood options. We can also build with SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir) or other species on request. The choice of wood affects price, weight, and load capacity.

Yes. All of our new wood pallets can be heat treated to ISPM-15 standards and stamped with the official compliance mark. Heat treatment is included as a standard option and raises the core wood temperature to a minimum of 56 degrees Celsius for at least 30 minutes, as required by international phytosanitary regulations. Every HT pallet carries a traceable stamp.

For most general-purpose applications, a Grade A used pallet performs identically to a new pallet. New pallets offer the advantage of guaranteed pristine condition, full ISPM-15 compliance, and zero cosmetic blemishes. They are essential for applications with strict regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, GMP) or when customers contractually require new pallets. For everything else, used pallets deliver the same performance at 30-60% less cost.
